Full Description

Established in 1977, Union Christian Association (UCA) is a society registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act. It is also registered as a charitable trust with the Director Income tax Exemptions, Chennai. Its main objective is to promote value based education in all fields for the benefit of all people without any distinction of religion or economic position. In this, it gives special attention to students from the weaker sections of the public. The UCA has been promoted by a group of Christians from Kerala belonging to the Orthodox, Marthoma and CSI denominations. In the past thirty five years of its service, UCA has established a Higher Secondary School and a college of physiotherapy. Both the institutions are rated high in their respective fields as they maintain high standards of discipline and academic excellence leading to very creditable results in the examinations.

The Union Christian School was opened on 18th June 1979. It is recognized as a Matriculation Higher Secondary School by the Government of Tamilnadu. It is a co-education and an English Medium School. The school aims to strike a balance between both academic and co-curricular activities. The school provides interesting learning activities in the class room and outside and helps each pupil to develop his / her ability to the fullest extent possible and hence the number in each section is limited to about 45 students.

The various activities of the school aims at enabling the students to have their skills both in sports and in other extra curricular events. Competitions like debates, elocution and creative writing bring out the best oratory and writing skills. The school conducts weekly classes in martial arts like karate, dance forms like Bharatha Natyam and musically inclined students are trained in piano and the guitar. Sports activities include regular coaching for cricket and basket ball. Students are also trained for Road Safety Patrol, Scouts and Guides.

The school band comprising of boys from the High School have always been a part of any school function. The Junior Evening, Annual Day, Sports Day and the Inter House Cultural Festival are some of the major events in the school.

The prestigious John K John Memorial Oratorical Competition is an annual event where students from leading city schools participate and the winners are given cash prizes. The school also gives importance to moral instruction and scripture classes. Students who are academically good but economically weak are given adequate financial assistance from the school, by way of scholarship.
