It was the vision of one man Prof.Dr.M.S.Murugesan that transformed what was once a modest eye clinic in Choolaimedu to what is today, one of premier specialty eye hospital. This rapidly growing Eye Hospital owes its inception to one mans dream Prof.Dr.M.S.Murugesan. Retired Professor of Ophthalmology & Senior Eye Surgeon, Madras Medical College. He was the first ophthalmologist to be deputed by the government of Tamilnadu for Vitreo-Retinal training to Moorfileds Eye hospital , London after which he founded the Vitreo Retinal department in Regional Institute of Ophthalmology. He was an expert in cataract surgery, squint, Glaucoma And Retinal detachment Surgery. He presently is the Director of Kumaran Eye Speciality Clinic Managed with Dr.M.Kumaran.

Joint Director of Kumaran Eye Specialty Clinic is a well trained Ophthalmic Surgeon in Anterior segment Surgery including Cataract (Phacoemulsification), Multifocal lenses, Squint, Orbit, Glaucoma and Medical Retina. He graduated from Kilpauk Medical College and had his Masters of Surgery (MS,Ophthalmology) Aravind Eye Hospital and Post-Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology, Madurai. After which he did his training in Member of Royal College of Ophthalmology (MRCO), London. Dr. M.Kumaran has performed more than 10,000 Cataract and IOL implant surgery and is a specialist in Phacoemulsification and Foldable IOL’s, Multifocal IOL, Squint, Orbit, Glaucoma and Medical Retinal diseases.
He was awarded the “Knight of the Blind ” by Lions Club of Chennai in 2007 for his exemplary service in rendering vision for the underprivileged in Chennai city. He had performed more than 1500 cataract cases in one year.

The facilities and services rendered include comprehensive eye checkup for all patients, computerized refraction (Nidek Auto-Refractometer), scanning for Pediatric eye diseases. The center also has a well-equipped Operation theatre(Carl Zeiss operating microscope, A-scan Biometry, Echorule-2) where we perform advanced cataract (Phacoemulsification with foldable and multifocal lenses) and all other ocular and oculoplastic surgeries.
