Dr.MGR-Janaki College was founded in the year 1996 under the aegis of Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran, who wished to start a college to pay a tribute to her husband Late Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.Under the dedicated leadership of our Founder Correspondent Dr.Latha Rajendran and Founder Late Mr.M.Rajendran the college grew from its humble beginnings to become a premier institution producing rank holders in multidisciplines. Due to the able guidance of illustrious personalities like Late Mr.N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar, Late Dr.N.C.Raghavachari, Dr.Jeppiaar and with the support of well wishers, the college has had a qualitative and quantitative progress

Teaching methodology took on a new dimension as classroom lectures were supplemented with the use of audio-visual techniques, models, demos, project work, group discussion and seminars, which facilitated better student-teacher interaction and encouraged intellectual initiatives and growth. Today, field work, project work and dissertation contribute to the richness of the student’s learning experience.

A special mention shall be made about the initiative by TCS titled ‘ Employabilty Training Programme’ for the second year in succession, as part of their CSR activities. They provided 80 hours training in English communication and Corporate etiquette to the SC/ST students, free of cost. At the end of the training they were tested and in the first round 30 students were given offer letters for jobs in TCS. Two trainers were engaged by TCS for the job

The College maintains high standards of excellence in the academic sphere and in the physical amenities and facilities intended to implement the educational programme. The College endeavours to enroll students who hold high standards of performance, discipline and achievement.

The College from its inception provided a training ground for formal and informal relations between Staff and Students through study, cultural activities, debates, games and religious observance. At present, the College has a strength of around 3224 students and 180 Faculty members and is a government aided minority institution.

In strengthening the core competencies, the college has been making steady progress. The college has a dedicated team of 283 faculty members who maintain academic excellence and about 6500 students who are the anchor to sustain the vision of the institution. The college has high standards of academic excellence and the zeal for constant updating and renewal.
